Samsung has officially started working on its next major software upgrade — the OneUI 8.5 update. The company only recently began rolling out OneUI 8, but development for OneUI 8.5 is already in full swing. The new version will debut with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Series and promises a smoother, smarter, and more personalized experience. Let’s explore the biggest changes coming with this update.
A Completely Redesigned Quick Share with a Modern Floating Interface
The Quick Share feature is getting a massive visual overhaul in OneUI 8.5. Instead of the old boxy interface, users will now see slim, pill-shaped floating bars for send and receive controls. With added NFC-based file transfer support, sharing files between Samsung devices will be faster and more seamless than ever before.
A Fully Revamped My Files App for Easier File Management
Samsung has given the My Files app a full redesign focused on usability. Expect circular category icons, a bottom search bar, yellow folder icons, and pill-shaped folder path indicators. Another smart touch — the internal storage section now shows percentage usage instead of numbers, giving users a clearer idea of how much space is left.
Fully Customizable Quick Launch Panel with Dynamic Layout Options
With OneUI 8.5, Samsung introduces a fully customizable Quick Toggle Panel. Users can resize toggles and widgets, move them anywhere, and remove unnecessary tiles. Some sliders will support both vertical and horizontal layouts, allowing a much more personalized and flexible interface experience.
New Double Tap Back Gesture Inspired by iPhone Controls
For the first time, Galaxy S26 users will get a Double Tap Back Gesture — a feature inspired by Apple’s iPhones. By double-tapping the back of your phone, you can instantly trigger AI features, Flashlight, Notifications, App launches, Quick Settings, or even take a Screenshot. This small addition makes everyday phone use much more intuitive.
Enhanced Lock Screen Notifications and Stylish New Clock Designs
OneUI 8.5 brings a sleek new blur background effect for Lock Screen Notifications, making them easier to read and more modern-looking. Alongside this, Samsung is adding new clock styles, allowing users to personalize their lock screens in unique and aesthetic ways.
What’s Next: OneUI 9 and Android 17 on the Horizon
According to reports, OneUI 8.5 will officially debut with the Galaxy S26 lineup in January or February 2025. Samsung is already preparing for OneUI 9, based on Android 17, which is expected to launch later with the new Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 foldables.
